Music

Today I am thankful for music. Music has been my life for so long. So many things would not be interesting if it didn't have music. I listen to music constantly, with almost everything I do. My mood tends to affect the type of songs I listen to as well. I know people that even make playlists that they can use when they are feeling a certain way. Today is a short post due to the headache I currently have.

What is your favorite type of music?

I hope you all enjoy reading my blog. Please leave comments with suggestions and thoughts.

State Of My Year

Today's prompt is: State of Your Year. Write up a mid-year "State of My Year" post.

Wow it is already the end of July, so hard to believe. Its amazing how much happens in just half a year. As I sat here reflecting in what all has happened since January I realized that some big changes have happened to me. The biggest thing that happened this year is that my daughter turned three years old. She amazes me everyday. She has started growing up to be such a beautiful girl. Between January and now her speech has come such a long way. She can speak in much larger sentences. The amount of information that she retains is crazy. I am always getting asked questions so she can learn. I am definitely proud of the person she is becoming. As of next month I will have been living in Colorado Springs for a year and a half. I have been lucky enough to be dating my amazing boyfriend of two years come this October.  I do not know what I would do without him. I am thrilled that his family was so accepting of Crystal and I.  I started this blog back in March. Somedays I don't know what to write about. When I see the topic, sometimes I just go blank. Doing this daily has shown me that I have the ability to continue something and accomplish something. I always hope for more participation. In almost every post I leave the readers with a challenge or a question. I hope to continue with this blog for a long time to come. This year my mother also moved from my home town. I have always been not to far so it has definitely been a change. I look forward to everything the rest of the year brings. Thank you to everyone who has continually supported me and encouraged me.

I hope you all enjoy reading my blog. Please leave comments with suggestions and thoughts.

Fear of Failure

I think this is the most common thought that keeps us demotivated. More times then not perfectionism or being afraid of not doing something correctly, can stop us from moving forward. Everyone works toward perfection in their life. Unfortunately perfection is not possible.Yesterday someone had told me that perfection is when we do the best we can in everything and live our life to the best of our ability. I had never thought of that before but it is so true. Failing is an essential part of the journey. Everyone will fail at something at least once. When I was in high school I went through a period of time where I felt as if I was constantly failing. I wouldn't pass a test, I would forget a piece of homework, and it would then lead to failing a class. I was always close to my fifth grade teacher. I turned to her for help during this hard time. She explained to me that because my mind had given up I had started a snowball affect. Each thing I failed at made the snowball bigger. I was at the point where the snowball had gotten so big I just let it keep rolling. Sometimes we have to slow down. Take things one at a time and we can eventually melt the snowball. We learn by trial and error. Thomas Edison once said, " I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work." Keep that in mind. It can help you stay motivated to keep trying.

How do you cope with failure?

Virtue

Virtue is the last thing we study in young womens. It wasn't one of the original values but it was added when I was in high school. In order to finish personal progress we read the entire Book of Mormon and to write our testimony. To this day I have never finished reading the entire book. The picture above really defines what we work toward when we talk about virtue. We all have moral standards. It is up to us to keep them not for someone else's purpose but for our own.

I do have a testimony. It is not very strong or at least not as strong as I want it to be. I am working to grow that testimony and improve my understanding of my beliefs. I believe in the Jesus Christ and the Holy Ghost. I know that Jesus was crucified for our sins. I know the scriptures are true and have faith that I will grow closer to my Heavenly Father every day.

I hope everyone had a great sunday. If you have a testimony please share it below. Even if you are not the same faith as me I would love to hear your testimony.

I hope you all enjoy reading my blog. Please leave comments with suggestions and thoughts.

Dirt

I have been wanting to talk about the song Dirt for a couple weeks now. Dirt is by Florida Georgia Line. The reason I have not written about this song yet is because every time I sat down to do so, I didn't know what to even say. This is honestly the first Florida Georgia Line song I have been impressed with since Cruise. I love this song more then I thought I would. I listened to this song over and over again until I finally came to realize there was more behind the song then just dirt and rolling in the mud. This song is about generations of people. It is about how much life can change but in the end we all end up where we started.

The lyrics say:
You get your hands in it
Plant your roots in it
Dusty head lights dance with your boots in it (dirt)
You write her name on it
Spin your tires on it
Build your corn field, whiskey
Bonfires on it (dirt)
You bet your life on it (yeah)
[Chorus]
It's that elm shade red rust clay
You grew up on
That plowed up ground
That your dad
Damned his luck on
That post game party field
You circle up on
And when it rains
You get stuck on
Drift a cloud back
Behind county roads
That you run up
The mud on her jeans
That she peeled off
And hung up
Her blue eyed
Summer time smile
Looks so good that it hurts
Makes you wanna build
A 10 percent down
White picket fence house on this dirt
You've mixed some sweat with it
Taken a shovel to it
You've stuck some crosses and some painted
Goal posts through it (dirt)
You know you came from it (dirt)
And some day you'll return to
[Chorus]
This elm shade red rust clay
You grew up on
That plowed up ground
That your dad
Damned his luck on
That post game party field
You circle up on
And when it rains
You get stuck on
Drift a cloud back
Behind county roads
That you run up
The mud on her jeans
That she peeled off
And hung up
Her blue eyed
Summer time smile
Looks so good that it hurts
Makes you wanna build
A 10 percent down
White picket fence house on this dirt
(dirt, dirt, dirt)
You know you came from it (dirt)
And some day you'll return to
This elm shade red rust clay
You grew up on
That plowed up ground
That your dad
Damned his luck on
That post game party field
You circle up on
And when it rains
You get stuck on
Drift a cloud back
Behind county roads
That you run up
The mud on her jeans
That she peeled off
And hung up
Her blue eyed
Summer time smile
Looks so good that it hurts
Makes you wanna build
A 10 percent down
White picket fence house on this dirt
Makes you wanna build
A 10 percent down
White picket fence house on this dirt
You know you came from it
And some day you'll return to it

Five Minute Friday: Finish

The word for this week is finish. When I first read Lisa-Jo Baker's post on finishing it made me think about what in my life I have finished that actually was a big deal. Unfortunately I couldn't think of much. I am still young and still working on a lot of my goals that have been started. I finished high school by the tip of my chair. That is probably my biggest accomplishment so far. This week I want to be able to finish two project that I started weeks ago. My health is finally starting to be normal so I am hoping to at least start getting back on track. It is very easy to see that there is a finish line. I think sometimes we feel like the finish line gets further and further away. Maybe we are trying to keep ourselves from it. I feel like it is so difficult to get motivated to start something sometimes. But when you are so passionate about something it can certainly be hard to just let it go and have it be the end... There are always more doors to be opened after you close one. Sometimes it can just take a little while.

Do you think it is harder to start or finish?

I want to take a moment to reflect on how and why five minute friday posts where started. Now I have only been participating in since the end of March. It is amazing how supportive and friendly this community of people are. I have looked forward to every friday since I started and look forward to what is to come. Lisa-Jo Baker was the originator of Five Minute Fridays. She started it four years ago. With today's word she announced that next week will be her last post and is passing the baton over to Kate Motaung. It was a very heartfelt post. Click here if you wish to read her post. I thank you for the time I was able to join you on your weekly posts.

Starting August 7th you can join us for Five Minute Friday posts with Kate Motaung. (Just click her name).

Running water

Today I am thankful for water. It is so refreshing to be able to take a warm shower after a long day. This week I also got the chance to take a few baths with epson salt. Nothing helps you relax more then a warm bath while watching Netflix.

Do you like baths or showers more?

The Stat Connection

This weeks prompt is: The Stat Connection. Go to your Stats page and check your top three-five posts. Why do you think they've been successful? Find the connection between them, and write about it.

In the last month my views have stayed pretty consistent. The posts that tend to do better seem to be my five minute friday posts and posts that really hit close to heart. The five minute friday community is so large that it is great when they stop by for encouragement. It makes me feel important. . When you first start a blog, it can take time to find what your viewers want to read about. I am starting to get more of an idea each week. Not only is it what the viewers like but it is what i enjoy writing about. I am really excited to see where this blog takes me in the years to come. I have certainly enjoyed it thus far.

I hope you all enjoy reading my blogs. Please leave comments with suggestions and thoughts.

Exhaustion

Any normal adult especially parents I feel suffer from exhaustion. Sleep is essential for proper brain and body function. It is often easy to blame lack of motivation on the fact that your tired. The average  hours asleep you should give your body a night is eight hours. I know that I don't sleep anywhere close to that many hours. I currently am probably getting between four and five hours of sleep I night. I particularly hate when major changes happen in my daily schedule. Then I have the hardest time falling asleep when I need to. Review your current sleep patterns and needs. Consider if lack of sleep is contributing to you feeling sick or unmotivated. Make adjustments if you think they are needed.

I hope you all enjoy reading my blog. Please leave comments with suggestions and thoughts.

Integrity

Sorry again for the delay in my post. I am still trying to feel better. Hopefully I can have everything back on track this week.

Integrity is a hard one to write about. Mainly because I am still in the process of understanding the meaning of the word. We grow up with the understanding that integrity was not cheating, doing what your asked, and following the rules. It can also be known as the things we do when no one is looking.  The dictionary says integrity is adherence to moral and ethical principles. Every person grew up learning what is right and wrong. Some people may have different opinions on some morals. I am happy to have grown up the way I did and in this church. There are many outside sources that try to effluence our actions. All we can do is stay strong and stand our ground. Always choose the right!

Waterfalls

Today I am sharing the lyrics to Waterfalls by TLC. We were watching Meet the Millers tonight and now the song is stuck in my head. There is no other reason to talk about this song other then it is catchy.

A lonely mother gazing out of her window
Staring at a son that she just can't touch
If at any time he's in a jam she'll be by his side
But he doesn't realize he hurts her so much
But all the praying just ain't helping at all
'Cause he can't seem to keep his self out of trouble
So he goes out and he makes his money the best way he knows how
Another body laying cold in the gutter
Listen to me
Don't go chasing waterfalls
Please stick to the rivers and the lakes that you're used to
I know that you're gonna have it your way or nothing at all
But I think you're moving too fast
Little precious has a natural obsession
For temptation but he just can't see
She gives him loving that his body can't handle
But all he can say is "Baby, it's good to me."
One day he goes and takes a glimpse in the mirror
But he doesn't recognize his own face
His health is fading and he doesn't know why
Three letters took him to his final resting place
Y'all don't hear me
Come on
I seen a rainbow yesterday
But too many storms have come and gone
Leavin' a trace of not one God-given ray
Is it because my life is ten shades of gray
I pray all ten fade away
Seldom praise Him for the sunny days
And like His promise is true
Only my faith can undo
The many chances I blew
To bring my life to anew
Clear blue and unconditional skies
Have dried the tears from my eyes
No more lonely cries
My only bleedin' hope
Is for the folk who can't cope
With such an endurin' pain
That it keeps 'em in the pourin' rain
Who's to blame
For tootin' 'caine into your own vein
What a shame
You shoot and aim for someone else's brain
You claim the insane
And name this day in time
For fallin' prey to crime
I say the system got you victim to your own mind
Dreams are hopeless aspirations
In hopes of comin' true
Believe in yourself
The rest is up to me and you

Five Minute Friday: Bloom

This weeks word is bloom. Just like plants, people take time to bloom. I believe that there are very many stages of blooming in our life. There is no specific age or time period when these stages take place. Not knowing when these stages will come makes it hard to prepare for them. It all depends on events, friends, family, and personal beliefs. I had to become an adult a lot sooner then most people. One unexpected event after another led me into blooming faster. Wake up each morning knowing that you will grow at least a little more each day. Don't forget that even your actions towards others affect them and yourself. We held each other bloom as well. One of my favorite sayings is: Friends are flowers that never fade. Where flowers bloom so does hope.

I hope you all enjoy reading my blog. Please leave comments with suggestions and thoughts.

Blankets

This week I am thankful for blankets. I have had a really rough week to say the least. I have been sick since Monday afternoon. Seeming to get worse everyday. I spent five hours in the hospital yesterday and an hour in a doctors office today. I have had a high fever for days, which led to chills. I have been in love with my blankets and do not know what I would have done without them.

I hope everyone has been having a good week.

Dream Home

Todays prompt is: Far from home. Tell us about the farthest you have ever traveled from home.
I have already written about this topic in a previous post, so I decided to choose a different prompt from this week.

I chose: Dream home. You win a contest to build your dream home Draft the plans.

My dream home would be a six bedroom house. I would live on a couple acres. It would have a huge kitchen with an island. There would be a big basement with a home theater system. There would also be a big play area for kids. Somewhere in the house I would make a music room. The out side would have a wrap around porch with a swing. The backyard would be large with a deck. The deck would have a fire pit. And the yard would have a trampoline and a swimming pool. Maybe even have a garden in the back.

The rest of the house I don't have specifics for.

What would your dream house look like?

Drudgery

I have to be honest I had to look up the definition of drudgery. Often times we set up routines in our daily life and sometimes we can get bored of doing the same thing. Routines are often time a lot of hard work. As useful as routines can be, after a while we can be de-motivated to continue with them.  I am starting my healthy habits for the third time this year. It includes better eating habits and an exercise program. I am trying to change things up this time around and adding some other steps in my routine to try and keep me motivated. If you start feeling bored and want to quit, find ways to add fun back into the equation. You could try playing upbeat music, or bring enervating scents into your environment. It never hurts o have a change in pace or a sequence of the routine. Try these changes in your routine to try and motivate yourself to keep moving forward.

What do you do to stay on your routine?

Good Works

3 Nephi 12:16 Therefor let your light shine before this people, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father who is in heaven.

This value is all about service. There is always so much joy from doing service for people you love, or people in general. The church of Latter Day Saints is very big into service. When working on this value during personal progress you get to prepare meals, help family members, and assist others.

Do something nice for someone this week. Let me know in the comments what you choose to do.

Try

During one of my many sleepless nights this week, I came across this song. The song is Try by Colbie Caillat. I have mentioned the topic in multiple posts before so I thought it was perfect. Most girls constantly worry about their appearance. I am definitely one of them. A long time ago I made a decision that I didn't want to wear makeup. To this day I still don't wear makeup on a regular basis, only for special occasions.

To anyone that thinks they are not pretty without make up, you need to watch this video.

Makeup just enhances your beauty. It does NOT make you beautiful. Be yourself.

Five Minute Friday: Belong

This week the word is belong.  The first thing I thought about when I saw this word was where I belong in the world. Growing up we often worry about belonging and fitting in. I am still in the process of figuring out where I belong in the world. Its amazing how much has happened and changed in the last five years. Sometimes when we have unexpected changes it can change the way we think about ourself. I want to find myself and where I belong so I can help my daughter as she gets older. We all have fears of not making friends or of not making it to where we want to be in life. It just takes time. We get closer to that sense of belonging everyday. The other thing I think of when I hear the word belong is organization. I have a small case of OCD. Everything belongs in a place and I always know when something is out of place.

What does the word belong make you think of?

I hope you all enjoy reading my blog. Please leave comments with suggestions and thoughts.

A Daughters Love

Today is a perfect day to be thankful for my life. For those who don't know five years ago today my dad had a heart attack and passed away. I was sixteen at the time and was getting ready to start my senior years of high school.

It is crazy how fast things can change. I remember every little detail from the week my dad died. From the morning of to after the funeral. It is never easy to loose someone you love. I'll never forget my moms face when she had to tell me my dad had died. My Mom had foot surgery about a week before so she was in a wheel chair, couldn't walk, and couldn't drive. I had only been asleep for about forty-five minutes when I was woken up by my Brother saying, "You need to get up, you need to get up. Dad is in the hospital and Mom needs you to take her there to see him." I was the only one in the house who could legally drive so I had to do it. I was a little out of it and didn't understand really what was happening. When we got to the hospital my Mom asked me to stay in the waiting area until she found out what was going on and then she would come and get me. A little after forty-five minutes had passed, the nurse came and got me. She did not take me to my parents though. She took me to a smaller waiting room. At this point I had started getting a pretty good idea something was very wrong. Less than five minutes later the doctor came around the corner with my Mom. She smiled at me as the doctor closed the door. I could tell she had been crying and she was holding a bucket. It was not a happy smile though. It was one of those smiles that says I'm sorry about what you are about to hear. The next thing I know she was in front of me saying, "He loved you very much. You were his world. But dad is no longer with us." I remember my whole body going numb as I sat there and tried to comprehend what she just said. I remember seeing my dad before we left the hospital that night. It was a decision I will never regret making. However the image will never be something I can forget. It was so strange knowing I was not going to be able to give him a hug or talk to him again I knew then that this was going to be one of the hardest experiences in my life, and it has been. There are still things that remind me of my dad on a daily basis. Potato Salad for dinner is never made the same. Sunday morning pancakes are rarely seen or eaten anymore. The rich smell of butter and bisquick and Maple Syrup will always bring back the memory of my dad in the kitchen cooking every Sunday morning. It is so hard to believe that five years have already passed without him here. Everything is as clear as yesterday. It took so long for me to accept the fact that he wasn't going to walk through the door after a business trip. Sometimes, even now, I have dreams where I am talking to him and wake up confused and not sure what the reality is because of how real the conversation seemed. He wasn’t there when I got my license, when I started my senior year and graduated high school, or to see me have my first child. He won’t be there when I graduate college, or get married. A day will never pass when he won’t be in my heart and mind. The hardest part now if seeing my daughter point at his picture saying that's Papa. She knows he isn't here anymore and has never met him. I love seeing the smile on her face when she sees his pictures though.

I will never forget my dad. I was the biggest daddy's girl there was. I miss him everyday.
I know todays post is long. Thank you for taking the time to read it.

Barter System

This weeks prompt is: Barter System. If the world worked on a barter system, how would you fare? Would you have services to barter? Would you be successful, or would you struggle?

I am going to be completely honest, when I read this prompt I had to look up the meaning of a barter system. I had never heard the term before. For those of you who don't know what a barter system is, it is when you make exchanges for services instead of using money. Im not sure how I would do if our world used this system. I know I have a lot of stuff I could do with out but eventually that stuff would be gone and I wouldn't have anything left to trade. I could clean or babysit for a service. I think it would be very difficult. One of the problems with this system is that it doesn't establish any type of worth for anything.

Do you think you could make the barter system work for you?

I hope you all enjoy reading my blog. Please leave comments with suggestions and thoughts.

Excuses

This week I want to talk about excuses. We all make them. Even the smallest of excuse keeps us from doing something. Down the road they often will start affecting your health, fitness, and life. We rationalize and explain away so much, rather then just tell ourself the cold truth. This week I would like everyone to try participating in the One Week, No Excuses Challenge. Try to motivate yourself by setting an internal alert. The best thing to do for yourself is become aware of the excuses that are not useful, real, or true. Instead of saying: Well I can't do this because this is going on. Make the dialogue positive.

Think about relationships for example. Think about relationships you have been in that ended or dates where the other person bailed or said not. When you turn to your friends to help you feel better, they often will tell you positive things. Things such as: You're perfect and they are stupid for not seeing that, or You're better off without them. We need to look at ourself the same way instead of feeling sorry for ourself.

Think about all the excuses we make when trying to get healthy. I am a master at these excuses for sure. People often blame their health on their DNA. I often find myself blaming it on time I do not have.

These excuses also apply when something goes wrong at work. When we run late we tend to blame traffic. When we don't get something finished we blame technology. I know that in high school I loved to blame my computer or printer for why my work was not done.

Just take time to change the way you think. Make yourself take responsibility for things that take place in your life. You never know what kind of reward life will bring you if you stop blaming others. Let me know in the comments if you are taking part of our challenge this week. You can come back in a week and let me know how it goes.

I hope you all enjoy reading my blog. please leave comments with suggestions and thoughts.

Choice and Accountability

This weeks value is Choice and Accountability. I started my personal progress again last week so that I can finish it. I forgot how much time is put into a lot of it.

We are all given the option to make choices. Depending on those choices depends on how our life turns out. Some choices are smaller then others, like choosing what movie or TV show to watch. Choosing to dress the way you do can even affect your life.

The scripture that is given for this value is:
Choose you this day whom ye will serve;... but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord. Joshua 24:15

Make choices in life that will improve it. Make them so that you feel better about yourself. Sometimes it is not an easy task. Especially when what you want to do may be something everyone else is doing. In my life I have made choices that have challenged myself and the way I live. I know that if I would have put more faith in God I would not be where I am today. I know that we shouldn't live in the past though. We should always live in the now. I love my life now and can't wait to see what life has in store for the future.

I hope you all enjoy reading my blog. Please leave comments with suggestions and thoughts.

Frozen

If you have not seen the movie Frozen you definitely should. It is a very cute movie and very entertaining. I get the pleasure of hearing these song almost on a daily basis. I know I have talked about the song "Let It Go" from the movie in a previous blog. All of the songs in the movie are catchy though. My daughter turned three yesterday. We celebrated her birthday today with a Frozen themed party. It was so much fun. I enjoyed making the cakes and shopping for her party.

The cakes were not what I expected at all. The tutorial I had found to follow ended up not being what it was supposed to be. I was able to salvage the cakes after a long process of trial and error. Over all we had a great time. We ended up watching the movie too.

Five Minute Friday: Exhale

Happy 4th of July!!!

This weeks Five Minute Friday word is Exhale. It is a holiday weekend and I am looking forward to doing a lot of exhaling the next few days. This is not just any normal holiday in my house though. Today is my daughters third birthday. We are having her party tomorrow. I have spent a lot of time the last month making sure I had everything for this party. After the party is over I will be able to relax and inhale and exhale for a few days. I think sometimes, especially as a mother, I forget to exhale. I am so many times going and going and going. If I am not physically going my mind sure is. It is always going in a thousand different direction.

I hope everyone has a great holiday weekend. Please share any traditions you have below.

I hope you all enjoy my blog. Please leave comments with suggestions and thoughts.

Juice

This week I am thankful for juice. I have been trying very hard to drink less soda. In the process it has left me craving some sort of liquid other than water. Walmart has this amazing watermelon juice made by Minute Maid. I was surprised when I first tried this drink because I do not like watermelon as a fruit but I loved the juice. I went out and bought two jugs of it along with two jugs of Sunny D Smooth. I have successfully drank half the amount of soda then usual and a little bit more water.

What drink have you been craving the most this summer?

I hope you all enjoy reading my blog. Please leave comments with suggestions and thoughts.

Great or Greatest

This weeks prompt is: Great or Greatest. What makes a blog great? What makes you follow a blog or "Like" a post?

When I am looking at blogs the ones that stick out the most to me are, the ones that talk about subjects I enjoy, the ones that are written well, or ones that have stories that keep my attention. I follow a a few blogs that are all about faith and religion. I also follow a few receipt blogs. I love being able to see different point of views on some subjects as well. Its hard to say what makes a blog great. Everyone has their own opinions. For me the people with great blogs are the people who write from the heart. The blogs that are not written because of the views or comments. Great blogs are written by people who enjoy writing and just want to share their thoughts. There are so many reasons these days for people to blog. People blog to advertise, to connect with people with similar interests, to have their voice heard and create awareness, to help other, to stay in touch, to keep record of their life, to express creativity, and to gain knowledge. I started my blog because I wanted to share my thoughts with others and to try and make a difference. It amazes me when I visit someones blog and I can tell that they have spent so much time working on it. I love seeing someone emotion through their writing.

What do you think makes a great blog?

I hope you all enjoy reading my blog. Please leave comments with suggestions and thoughts.
